Reiterating his government’s commitment to sustainable development, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said a nine-point policy has been launched in the state to ensure a balance between economy and ecology.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 24th Annual Conference of the ‘Indian Association of Social Science Institutions (IASSI)’ that started at Doon University here, Dhami said that the government is working with full commitment and determination to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals while maintaining economic, social and environmental sustainability in the state.
“The government has launched a nine-point policy to ensure a balance between the economy and ecology, which is an important initiative towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.
More than 400 delegates from across the country are participating in the three-day conference to deliberate on issues such as sustainable development, climate resilience and livelihood security, with particular reference to the Himalayan regions. In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s continuous efforts on social justice, poverty alleviation and inclusive development.
He stressed the State’s commitment to adopt emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence to effectively deal with the increasing frequency of natural disasters and the widespread impacts of climate change, especially in sensitive ecological regions like Uttarakhand.
The conference will conclude on October 12, which will be presided over by the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmeet Singh. He will also address on this occasion.
