Naqvi a victim of BCCI’s anger! Demand for removal from ICC intensifies over Asia Cup trophy controversy

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been embroiled in controversy and drawn the ire of the BCCI over his behavior after India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Naqvi walked away with the tournament trophy after the Indian players refused to accept it. According to a report, Naqvi has directed that the trophy be kept at the ACC headquarters in Dubai and not be handed over to India without his permission. He is adamant on personally handing over the trophy to India despite India’s objection.

Now, according to reports, there is speculation about BCCI censuring Naqvi and removing him from the post of ICC director. “It remains to be seen what the long-term consequences of this will be for the PCB or Naqvi, as the BCCI is clear that he (Naqvi) had no right to insist on handing over the trophy to the Indian team and refuse to send it to the BCCI, which was the official host of the event,” a source told the agency.
Several incidents occurred after India refused to talk to Pakistani players and officials, which impacted the regional tournament. The PCB tried to remove ICC match referee Andy Pycroft from its matches after alleging that the official had breached the decorum of their captain Salman Ali Aga by asking him not to shake hands with his Indian counterpart Suryakumar Yadav during the toss in the first match of the tournament.

Pakistan had reportedly considered boycotting the Group A match against UAE if their demands were not met. Later, during the Super 4 clash, there were several arguments on the field between the players of India and Pakistan. The gestures and statements of the players of both the rivals led to the ICC penalizing them following complaints from BCCI and PCB. Both the rival teams faced each other for the third time in the title match, which India won in a thrilling manner and became the champion.
