Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell may return to international cricket next month. Glenn Maxwell hopes that he will regain full fitness by the last matches of the upcoming T20 International series against India. Maxwell has undergone surgery on his right wrist. Glenn Maxwell was injured after being hit on the wrist by a shot from his teammate Mitchell Owen during the net session before the T20 series against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui. He has not been selected in the team for the first two T20 matches against India to be held on 29 and 31 October.
Maxwell told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Melbourne that, I think undergoing surgery last week has given me some hope of playing in the series against India. For this I have to gain fitness as soon as possible. Maxwell opted for surgery to regain fitness as quickly as possible so that he could be available for the last three matches of the series with India. These matches will be played in Hobart, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
He further said that, I got the surgery done because I was given two options, either withdraw from the series against India or keep my hope of playing in it. I opted for surgery. This will keep my hopes of playing in that series intact. If that doesn’t happen, I will prepare for the BBL earlier and I think this will help me stay physically fit.
Maxwell said the plaster cast was removed from his wrist on Wednesday and he will wear a plastic wrap to protect it for some time, but he has been given free rein to move his wrist again. When asked about his future in T20 International cricket, he said that he is not thinking too far ahead. Maxwell said, I am really thinking about the first round of BBL at the moment.
