An investigation into the mysterious death of singer Zubin Garg took another twist last night when the police arrested his cousin, Assam Police Service (APS) officer DSP Sandipan Garg. He was present with the singer at the boat in Singapore where he died.The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandeipan was taken into custody after several inquiries made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Earlier, he was also questioned along with many close colleagues of the late singer.

This is the fifth arrest in this case. Earlier, Shyamakanu Mahant, the chief organizer of the ‘North East India Festival’, Siddharth Sharma, manager of the singer and two members of his band Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahant were arrested.
Munna Prasad Gupta, Special Director General of Police of Crime Investigation Department (CID), told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “We have arrested Sandipan Garg. Now we are making necessary legal formalities. ”The police officer caught in the case of singer’s death in Singapore has been questioned several times in the last few days. Sandeipan Garg, the cousin of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and the singer, was present with Jubin during the alleged drowning incident in Singapore.
Another senior official said, “Our team has taken him to a court here. We will demand police remand. ”Four other people arrested earlier in connection with the case are now in police custody. Jubin Garg died on September 19 while floating in the sea in Singapore. He went to the Southeast Asian country to participate in the fourth edition of the North East India Festival organized by Shyamakunu Mahant and his company.

Earlier, CID arrested Shyamakunu Mahant, organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF) held in Singapore, in which Garg was involved in the case. Apart from this, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahant were also arrested. The four are currently in CID custody.
After Garg’s death under suspicious circumstances at a yacht party organized by some Assamese Overseas Indians in Singapore, the CID registered a case of death due to culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy and negligence.
Later, after interrogation of four arrested people, the CID also added the murder charge. The CID had also registered a separate case against the alleged financial irregularities after the recovery of several seals and some objectionable documents from the Mahant’s residence in Guwahati.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that central agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (IT) Department … ED can conduct raids on Mahant’s office and residence in Guwahati on Wednesday.
