Coldrif Cuff Syrup Ban, who killed innocent people, Punjab government takes strict decision

The Punjab government has immediately banned its sales, distribution and use after reports of death of 14 children due to serious side effects of cold cuff syrup in Madhya Pradesh. The Food and Drug Administration of Punjab (Drug Branch) has issued an official order saying that this phlegm syrup is not of standard quality announced by the government analyst of the Food and Drug Administration of Madhya Pradesh.

The order states that in view of the seriousness of the case, because the said product has been found to be related to the deaths of the recent children in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. The above product is completely banned for sales, distribution and use in the state of Punjab with immediate effect in public interest. The Uttar Pradesh government has also banned Coldrif Kapha Syrup. The Assistant Drug Administration Commissioner of the state has issued instructions to all drug inspectors to collect samples of Kapha syrup made by Srisan Pharmaceutical, Chhindwara from both government and private institutions in Uttar Pradesh.
In this order, imports and exports of cuff syrup in government and private institutions have also been banned till next information. The authorities have strictly stressed the instructions to ensure public safety. Meanwhile, the Kerala government has formed a committee to submit a report on the management of pediatric cuff syrup. The Kerala Health Department has also asked the drug controller to issue a notice to the pharmacies not to sell pediatric medicines to children without a prescription.

Veena George said that the State Drug Controller has banned this special cuff syrup and does not provide this syrup to Kerala Medical Services Corporation (KMSCL) government hospitals. Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Telangana have issued an advisory and banned Coldrif Kapha Syrup. Meanwhile, amidst the Coldriff Syrup dispute, the Food and Drug Administration of the state of Madhya Pradesh has found two more phlegm diathylene glycol (DEG) levels in the syrup and has started the process of banning the drug. The drug controller has ordered immediate ban on the sale and seizure of the concerned cough syrup.
