On the ‘false campaign’ against Sonam Wangchuk, wife in the Supreme Court, said- intrigue of slander.

Geetanjali Angamo, wife of Ladakh environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court and objected to the ongoing “false and planned campaign” against her. He said that the allegations of Wangchuk having a relationship with Pakistan and China are baseless and are being spread only to discredit their Gandhian movement.

Gitanjali said in the petition that under the National Security Act (Rasuka), Wangchuk was misrepresented after his custody. It is being said that he has relations with Pakistan and China, which is completely wrong. His movement is being carried out peacefully to protect the livelihood of Ladakh’s sensitive ecology, glaciers and local people.

The petition also states that this kind of publicity is dangerous and tarnishes democratic disagreements. This is an attempt to make environmental movements “anti -national”. Gitanjali appealed to the court that Wangchuk’s arrest is a violation of his fundamental rights and also hurts Ladakh’s collective consciousness.

Geetanjali emphasized the Gandhian character of Wangchuk and stated that he has always raised voice for conservation and autonomy, especially under the Sixth Schedule, the constitutional demands of Ladakh, melting glaciers and local people in a non -violent and peaceful manner.

Please tell that Sonam Wangchuk was arrested under Rasuka after major demonstrations in Ladakh on 26 September. These demonstrations demanded state status to Ladakh and inclusion of the region in the sixth schedule of the Constitution. Four people died and around 90 people were injured during the protest. Wangchuk is currently lodged in Jodhpur Jail in Rajasthan.

After his arrest, environmental workers and civil society groups have expressed concern and described it as an attempt to suppress peaceful democratic movements.
