Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Saturday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted on the basis of the order of the Madras High Court will start an investigation into the Karur stampede, which will reveal the whole truth and will be fixed at every level.
Appealing against political allegations and counter-allegations against the Karur incident, the Chief Minister said that the standard operation process (SOP) will be prepared to stop the stampede. He said that the Tamil Nadu government is working on the Karur tragedy paying attention to all the guidelines of the High Court.
The Chief Minister said in a post on social media, “We are all shocked by the tragedy in Karur.” He said that he was very sad to see the tears of the families who lost our loved ones. The SIT constituted on the basis of the order of the High Court will start an investigation into the case.
Stalin said that he is assuring people as the Chief Minister that “the whole truth will be revealed through this investigation and accountability will be fixed at all levels.” He said that Tamil Nadu, which is an ideal for the rest of the country in many areas, will guide the country in stopping stampede.
The Chief Minister said, “We will prepare a comprehensive standard operation process in consultation with stakeholders.” He said that experts, representatives of political parties, workers and common people across the state will be consulted. Stalin said, “This (to stop stampede) will become a model that can be followed not only Tamil Nadu, but the whole country.”
He said that in the background of this tragedy, “Let us move towards a long-term solution without blaming each other for political objectives.” The Chief Minister said that he welcomes ideas and suggestions for the collective effort to stop the stampede by preparing the standard operation process.
He said, “Let us unite to save the lives of our people and stop such tragedy not only in Tamil Nadu, but from across the country again!” The Madras High Court ordered to set up an SIT on October 3, 2025 under the leadership of Senior IPS officer Asra Garg, which will investigate the stampede during actor Vijay’s rally in Karur on 27 September. 41 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured in the stampede.
