In West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, landslides and floods caused by heavy rains on Sunday have caused havoc, killing at least seven people.
Siliguri-Mirik route disrupted due to bridge collapse
Due to excessive rains, a part of Dudhia iron bridge collapsed. This bridge used to connect Siliguri and Mirik. As a result of the bridge collapse, the movement of vehicles on the Siliguri-Darjiling SH-12 road has come to a complete standstill.

BJP leader expressed grief
Darjeeling MP and BJP leader Raju Bisht expressed grief over the incident. He wrote on X that he has suffered greatly to know about the heavy losses caused by extremely heavy rains in many parts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. There have been deaths, property damage has occurred and infrastructure has damaged. He also stated that he is taking stock of the situation and is in touch with the officials concerned.

Meteorological Alert
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a serious weather warning for the region. The department continues red alert for Alipurduar, while heavy rains have been issued for Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri. Earlier, the department on Saturday issued a red alert for sub-Himalayan district as well as Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar.
