A coalition of business groups has warned President Donald Trump that the new fee of $ 100,000 declared for H-1B visa applications is at risk of damage to the US economy. He has urged the administration to avoid changes in skilled labor programs, as this will put additional burden on companies. Nearly a dozen industry organizations representing chip manufacturers, software companies and retailers in a letter sent to Trump on Friday stated that the new fee is in danger of impacting the important talent pipeline of foreign skilled workers and remaining empty of important jobs.

The group wrote that we request the administration to work closely with the industry for necessary reforms in the H-1B visa program, so that the challenges faced by the recruitment, training and maintaining top talent in front of American employers do not increase further. The letter sent two weeks after the President’s H-1B announcement appreciated Trump’s efforts to invest in the US. According to a copy viewed by Bloomberg News, those who signed this letter included Business Software Alliance, SemiCon Industry Semi, National Retail Federation, Entertainment Software Association and Information Technology Industries Council.

The objections of industry groups symbolize a rare reprimand of the business community on the US policy under the new administration. Trump announced changes in H-1B at the White House last month, in which a fee of $ 1,00,000 was announced to curb the misconduct in the skilled labor program, as well as inspired American companies to turn to domestic talent for jobs. The White House spokesperson defended the new H-1B policy, saying that this would help American companies reach top talents and also reduce the damage caused by malicious actors to be cheated.
