Advisors of Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir have approached US authorities with a proposal for the development and operation of a port in the Arabian Sea. According to the Financial Times report, the scheme includes the construction and operation of a terminal by American investors to reach the important minerals of Pakistan in Pasni city. Pasni is a port town in Gwadar district of Balochistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Iran. The proposal came after a meeting of Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif with US President Donald Trump at the White House in September, where Sharif demanded American investment in agriculture, technology, mining and energy.

Sources told the newspaper that the proposal was told to some US officials and presented to Munir before a conversation with Trump. The report said that the scheme has been rejected by the possibility of using the port for US military purposes and in its place, it has been said that the development for the railway corridors connecting the terminal to the mineral rich provinces of Western Pakistan. The embrace of Pakistan by Trump, former US President Joe Biden, is an indication of a change after keeping the country distance, worried about Islamabad’s relations with the Taliban during the two -decade US war in Afghanistan.

According to the AFP report, shortly before the conflict between India and Pakistan, a company operated by the Trump family signed an agreement with Islamabad on Cryptocurrency. Last month, Trump met Shahbaz Sharif and Asim Munir at the White House, where he discussed regional security, anti-terrorism cooperation and other issues. According to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, the first Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz, the first Pakistani Prime Minister to visit the White House in six years, described Trump as a peace man for his honest efforts to end the struggles around the world and appreciated his courageous and decisive leadership in the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
