Russia and India have always been above strategic and business relations. The two countries are generally called two brothers. Russia has recently taken a step that has raised many questions at the depth of friendship between India Russia. Russia has decided to supply the RD 93 engine for JF17 Thunder Fighter Jet to Pakistan, bypassing India’s strict objections. This step is questioning India’s long -standing political relations. This deal can affect military balance in South Asia. Especially after the recent tension between India and Pakistan.

Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC)-This advanced powerplant produced by Climov, Pakistan Air Force’s most advanced JF-17 Thunder Block III makes the promotion of fighter jet aircraft, developed jointly with China. India has been requesting Russia for a long time not to sell the engine directly to Pakistan. However, Moscow has decided to continue the engine supply, ignoring the objections of New Delhi. Reports claim that even after the recent India-Pakistan struggle, India urged Russia to stop the engine supply.

JF-17 is a 4.5-generation fighter aircraft, which Pakistan manufactures indigenously with the help of China. The early versions of this fighter aircraft-connecting I and Block II-were often described as low-cost, middle-level fighter aircraft. Block III is an advanced fighter aircraft. The version is equipped with AESA radar, helmet-mounted display, advanced electronic war system and China-made PL-15 long-range missiles. Pakistan claims that the capabilities of JF-17 are equal to Rafael and Sukhoi-30 MKI.

However, experts reject this claim. Nevertheless, just as the SU-30MKI is the backbone of the Indian Air Force, JF-17 is the backbone of the Pakistani Air Force. Most of the fighter aircraft in Pakistan’s fleet are JF-17. Pakistan is also trying to sell JF-17. It is believed that with Russia’s powerful RD-93MA engine, JF-17 will enter the market with even more strength. A report in Defense Security Asia claimed that the RD-93MA engine JF-17 may prove to be a major change for Block III.
