Famous Hindustani classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra died on Thursday (2 October) at around 4:00 am in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, after a long illness. Mishra, 89, was in medical care for the past several months. His daughter Namrata Mishra confirmed the news of her death on the phone to the media. Pandit Mishra’s body will be brought from Mirzapur to Varanasi after noon. His funeral will be held tonight at Manikarnika Ghat, which is one of the holiest dah sites of this holy city.

Padma Vibhushan -awarded singer Chhannulal Mishra was admitted to the ICU of Sir Sundarlal Hospital affiliated to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) after cardiovascular problems, where he was treated with hemoglobin deficiency and bed wounds. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences on the death of great classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra. Recalling him as a lifelong worshiper of Indian art and culture, the Prime Minister said that Mishra ji not only brought classical music closer to the general public, but also played an important role in displaying Indian traditions on the global stage.
Modi recalled his personal association with Ustad, saying that Pandit Mishra affectionately blessed him for years and was also his proponent from Varanasi seat in 2014. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to Mishra’s family and fans and prayed for the peace of his soul. ॐ Peace.
