Amidst a ruckus over the “I Love Mohammed” controversy, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) national general secretary Nafees Khan and his son Farman Khan in connection with the protests in Bareilly on 26 September. With this, the number of people arrested has increased to 81. According to the police, the Farman handled the Facebook page of IMC. Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said that Nafees and his son have revealed that all the people were involved in this conspiracy.

Two people allegedly involved in the violence in Bareilly on 26 September were arrested after a police encounter in CBGanj area on Wednesday. He said that both the accused were injured by bullet and are currently undergoing treatment in police custody. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said that the two accused – Idris and Iqbal – are originally residents of neighboring Shahjahanpur district and were actively involved in the violence in Kotwali area last week.
SSP Arya told ANI, “Dr. Nafees and his son have been arrested and they have revealed that all the people were involved in this conspiracy and they deliberately created confusion by calling the appeal fake so that the crowd could gather. A total of 81 people have been arrested.” Later addressing a press conference, SSP Arya said that eight people were arrested today in a stone pelting case. A total of 81 people have been arrested so far. Nafees and his son Farman were arrested by the Kotwali police station. A senior police officer said that Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS) is applicable in the district.
SSP Arya said that by yesterday, the police had arrested 73 accused and sent them to jail. Today a total of eight accused were arrested, in which two were arrested during the police encounter. In addition, the Kotwali police station arrested six other accused, including Nafees Khan and his son Farman Khan. A total of 81 accused have been arrested. Using CCTV and drone footage, our team is working to identify those involved in provoking the crowd. Sections 144 and 163 of BNS are applicable in the district.

Nafees is an associate of Maulana Tauqir Raza, who has already been arrested as he appeared as the main conspirator in the stone pelting case.
