At least 12 Indian fishermen were arrested on Sunday near Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka and their boat was confiscated. The Navy gave this information here. The campaign was carried out by the Northern Navy Command in coordination with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
The Navy said in a statement, “The Sri Lankan Navy seized a boat of Indian fishing in the early hours of September 28, 2025 and arrested 12 Indian fishermen when they were illegally hunting in the Sri Lankan water area near the Delft Island in Jaffna.”
It said that the group of Indian boats was seen “illegally while fishing and encroaching in the Sri Lankan water sector. According to the statement, the seized boat and fishermen were brought to the Kankasanthuri port and handed over to the fisheries inspector of Maladi for legal action.
