The BCCI’s 94th annual general meeting concluded in Mumbai on Sunday. Former Indian off -spinner Harbhajan Singh attended this meeting as a representative of the Punjab Cricket Association. After the meeting, Harbhajan Singh revealed that the board has started an incentive scheme to give domestic cricketers a financial reward for playing more matches in a season.
Harbhajan, after the meeting, told the media that, it has been decided that if a player plays more domestic matches in a season, he will get more money. These teams will be an incentive to reach the finals of domestic tournaments. The former Indian star revealed that this bonus could be quite large. Harbhajan Singh said that, if a cricketer plays 14 first class matches in a season, he will get an additional match fee of Rs 1 crore.
This step is considered a major change for India’s domestic circuit. It is seen as a platform for future international players. BCCI wants to encourage players to prioritize domestic cricket and increase competition of tournaments such as Ranji Trophy by connecting directly to the presence in matches.
