39 killed in stampede in Vijay’s Karur rally, TVK announces 20 lakh compensation

In Karur, Tamil Nadu, 39 people, including 10 children and 16 women, died in a horrific stampede at the rally of actor and politician Vijay on Saturday evening. After this big tragedy, security has been tightened outside Vijay’s residence in Chennai. Expressing deep grief over the incident, Vijay has also announced a help to help the victims.

What did Chief Minister Stalin say on a stampede?

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the formation of the Judicial Inquiry Commission under the leadership of Retired Judge Aruna Jagdishan of Madras High Court, describing the incident as one of the recent state’s recent tragedies. The Chief Minister also held an emergency meeting with senior officials in Chennai to review the situation.

Vijay announced compensation amount

Vijay, the head of the Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam, issued a statement expressing deep grief over the incident. Vijay said that thinking about what happened in Karur is full of deep heaviness. He said that he does not have words to describe the immense grief of losing his loved ones. He expressed deep condolences to all the affected families and described it as imperfect damage.
To help the victims, Vijay announced that he would give Rs 20 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the injured. He also assured that his Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam organization would provide all possible assistance to the injured.

Why the stampede took place?

The stampede took place around 7:30 pm. This happened when thousands of people waiting for Vijay from noon started moving forward during their address from their promotional vehicle. It is reported that many people fainted with heat, dehydration and suffocation due to waiting for hours in the sun for hours. In the video of the incident, people appeared to run on the roofs of the huts to escape the stampede.
