A 25 -year -old man was sentenced to life imprisonment on Saturday by a court in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha in a rape case of a teenager. According to the prosecution, the 15 -year -old teenager was returning home from a nearby shop, when the person forcibly took her to his house, tied her hands with a rope and raped her. The accused escaped after the incident.
The accused was arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother at the Bassinga police station. The incident occurred in November last year. Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak’s special poxo court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment. The convict was also fined Rs 10,000. The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to give compensation of two lakh rupees to the victim.
