A few days after being acquitted in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, Prasad Srikanth Purohit has been promoted to the post of Colonel. This promotion of Purohit took place after years of legal battle. The Mumbai court acquitted him and six other accused, saying that the prosecution was unable to prove the allegations against him beyond appropriate suspicion. Union Minister Giriraj Singh has congratulated Purohit on his promotion and described him as a patriot.

He posted on X congratulated Colonel Purohit on his return to uniform. The government stands firmly with the patriots who serve the country with courage and honesty. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said that Purohit finally got justice after suffering ‘harassment’ for more than 17 years. He also criticized the Congress and Rahul Gandhi and said that his ‘appeasement’ politics hindered the upliftment of the priest. They posted on XAfter 17 years of harassment and 8 years without proof, Lieutenant Colonel Srikanth Purohit was finally restored to the post of Colonel. But due to the anti-Hindu agenda of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, a talented officer was denied the post of Major General. For Congress, appeasement is first, national pride later.

On September 29, 2008, a bomb on a motorcycle exploded near a mosque in Malegaon, about 200 km from Mumbai. Six people were killed and 101 others were injured in the blast. Initially 14 people were arrested in connection with the incident, but finally only seven were prosecuted. All seven accused, including Prasad Srikanth Purohit and BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur, were acquitted by an NIA court on 31 July this year. Other acquitted accused include Major (retired) Ramesh Upadhyay, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhankar Dhar Dwivedi (Shankaracharya) and Sameer Kulkarni.
