Wipro founder Azim Premji on Thursday refused to give the Karnataka government access to the company’s premises to reduce traffic at Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Bengaluru. In a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he said that he appreciates his leadership for the traffic related initiatives in Bengaluru, but the ‘complexity’ of this problem suggests that it is unlikely to have a single-point solution or a fixed solution. Premji said that a ‘broad and scientific’ study needs to be done to find a solution to this problem. Premji said that such a study will help in preparing a composite roadmap that can be discovered which can be implemented in short -term, medium and long -term. He said that Wipro would be happy to join this process and bear a large part of the cost of this specialist study.

In his letter, he said that in relation to the specific suggestions to allow the movement of public vehicles through our Sarjapur campus, we apprehens important legal, administrative and statutory challenges as it is a special private property owned by a listed company that is not for the public route. In addition, it will also be commendable that our Sarjapur campus is a special economic zone (SEZ) that provides services to global customers, our contractual terms include strict, non -comprehensive entry control criteria for administration and compliance. In addition, the movement of public vehicles through a private property will not be effective as a permanent, long -term solution. Premji insisted that Wipro is committed to partnership with the Government of Karnataka to find a ‘permanent solution’ to Bengaluru’s traffic problem. We believe that a collaborative, data-based approach will give the most impressive results for our city.
