The Assam Police on Wednesday formed a nine -member SIT to investigate the circumstances of death of singer Zubeen Garg on September 19 while floating in the sea in Singapore. CM Himant Biswa Sarma wrote on X, “We will not spare anyone.” CID’s ADG MP Gupta will lead the SIT, about which Sarma said that he would “have complete freedom to investigate the case”.

Assam Association Singapore has said that its members are currently assisting officers investigating in the case of singer Zubin Garg’s death. The Assam Association Singapore’s management committee said in a post on ‘Instagram’ on Wednesday, “Since some of our members are currently assisting the officials in the investigation of our beloved Zubin Da’s death, the Assam Association Singapore is not allowed to make public comments on the issue until the investigation process is completed and/or permission by the investigating authorities.”

The committee did not name the investigating officer. The committee said, “The entire Assamese community living in Singapore has been deeply mourned by the untimely demise of our beloved Zubin Da. We are with him in this hour of grief and express our heartfelt condolences to his family, as well as our community living outside and our community. ”The singer died on 19 September.
Garg was to perform at a celebration celebrating the culture and tradition of Northeast India, as well as attending the 60th anniversary of India-Singapore diplomatic relations and also to attend the event organized on the year of India-ASEAN Tourism. The program was to be held from 19 to 21 September. Due to the death of the singer, the Indian High Commission here canceled all programs.
The first post -mortem was done in Singapore, where the authorities issued a death certificate, in which the reason was described as “drowning”. Amid the increasing demands of justice, 55 FIRs have been lodged against four people:- Shyamakanu Mahant, organizer of North East India Festival in Singapore, where Garg was to perform on 20 September. The singer’s manager Siddharth Sarma, who was associated with a talent management company in Mumbai representing Garg. Drummer Shekharjyoti Goswami, and businessman Sanjeev Narayan. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Mahant and any group associated with him have been banned from organizing programs in Assam.
The Chief Minister said, “The state government will not give any financial grant, advertisement or sponsor to any program that is directly or indirectly connected. The state government will also request the central government not to give them any financial assistance or sponsorship.” In Guwahati, fans gathered outside Narayan’s office, when he denied all the allegations while addressing a press conference.
