Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday participated in the plantation campaign organized by the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) under the ‘Ek Trees Mother’s Name’ campaign and urged people to make active contribution in environmental protection by planting trees. This campaign symbolically encourages people to plant a tree in their mother’s name.

Earlier, on 19 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Kadamb plant on his official residence 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, on his birthday by King Charles III of Britain as a special gift. The plant, a symbol of friendship between the two countries and shared commitment to environmental stability, was presented by King Charles to the Prime Minister on Wednesday, 17 September on his 75th birthday. The Kadamb tree presented by King Charles was inspired by the ‘Name of a tree mother’. On Wednesday, the British High Commission shared the details about this gift in a post on X, saying, “His Excellency Raja expressed great happiness to Prime Minister of India by presenting a Kadamb tree on his birthday. This feeling inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Name of a tree’ ‘initiative’ shows his shared commitment to environmental protection.

‘Ek tree mother’s name’ campaign was started by Prime Minister Modi on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024 by planting a peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. This initiative connects environmental responsibility with respect for mothers. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of collective efforts for environmental improvement and mentioned India’s progress in increasing the forest area in the last decade. He said that this campaign is in accordance with the goal of sustainable development of the country.
