Putting forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for indigenous products, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday urged citizens to support Indian talents and buy products manufactured by indigenous artisans. Addressing a state level workshop on ‘Self-reliant India-Swadeshi resolution’, Chief Minister Yogi highlighted the importance of self-reliance and national pride in production. Linking the call to the historical perspective, Chief Minister Yogi said that India’s population and agriculture have been damaged due to foreign invasions for centuries. He said that the Hindu population in India, which according to their estimate was about 60 crores by the year 1100, had come down to about 30 crores by the time of independence in 1947. He asked, “By the year 1100, the population of Hindus in India was 60 crores. And when the country became independent in 1947, the population of Hindus was only 30 crores. Tell me, in these 800-900 years, our population should have increased or should it have been reduced?”

Yogi said that this means that not only the population decreased, but our agricultural production also decreased. This decreasing population was not only killed by invaders, but also died of hunger, disease and all kinds of tortures. Foreign slavery is like this. The same thing was imposed on this country. This country was tortured and exploited. The Chief Minister further said that despite everything, India had to bear the brunt of the division done by foreign rulers.
