Bihar becomes the fourth largest producing state in the country in honey production

In the last about 20 years, Bihar has made a rapid progress in the production of honey. Before 2005, where the state used to produce a very small amount of honey, now it has increased to more than 18,030 MT in the year 2023-24. Bihar has become the fourth largest producer of honey in the country. Honey is continuously increasing in the state. Thousands of people have got employment due to increase in honey production and there has been prosperity in their lives.

Honey production has increased due to encouragement from government schemes, diversity of flora, favorable climate and abundant natural resources in the state. The correct use of natural resources has also increased its production. Especially due to the promotion of beekeeping in the fields of crops like mustard, litchi, drumstick, berries, its production has increased. Muzaffarpur, Vaishali and Samastipur are known for the large gardens of litchi. Lychee honey is one of the most popular honey in Bihar and is in great demand for its unique taste. Mustard honey is widely produced in mustard cultivated areas such as Nalanda and Patna, similarly sesame honey is also produced in Aurangabad and Rohtas.

Government is giving grants on beekeeping

To promote beekeeping and honey production in the state, centrally sponsored scheme- Under the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission and State Scheme, beekeepers are given a grant of 75 percent to the general category farmers and 90 percent to the farmers of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes on the purchase of bee boxes to bee boxes, bee hives and honeycomb. An annual distribution of 20 thousand to one lakh bee boxes is being done under the pollination promotion program in the state. The government is also given training in honey production and management to its farmers. This is the reason that not only the production of honey has increased in Bihar, but the honey here is being liked across the country due to good quality.
