In recent times, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokespersons-Kanchan Yadav, Sarika Paswan and Priyanka Bharti-Ke TV debates are becoming increasingly viral on social media. The conduct of these spokespersons not only brings down the level of political discussion, but also hurts the dignity of Indian democracy. In panel discussions on news channels, these spokespersons are seen resorting to personal attacks, abusive and propaganda rather than facts and arguments. Such activities are being severely criticized, and anger and disappointment towards them can be clearly seen among the public.
In these viral videos, Kanchan Yadav, Sarika Paswan and Priyanka Bharti have been condemned with other panelists. These spokespersons often make personal comments by wandering from the subject during the discussion and try to get their point out by screaming instead of listening to the arguments of the opposing side. For example, in a recent debate organized on a major news channel, Kanchana Yadav questioned a panelist and questioned his ability. This behavior was not only rude, but also shows that they are more interested in poisoning the atmosphere rather than participating in factual discussion. Similarly, in another discussion, Sarika Paswan tried to throw mud on opposition parties without any fact, which had no concrete basis. Priyanka Bharti also ignored arguments in a debate and tried to play emotional propaganda and women and backward cards, which highlights her weak preparation.

It is especially embarrassing that these spokes play the card of women and backward to hide their weaknesses. This strategy is not only old and marginalized, but it also insults those of the society who actually struggle for their community. If these spokespersons have to take inspiration from someone coming from the deprived class, then they should see Dr. Guru Paswan, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Dr. Paswan, who himself comes from a disadvantaged society, introduces everything with facts and arguments. He does not back down from any question nor would he resort to personal attacks. His education, intensive subject-knowledge and decency makes him an effective speaker. Their logical ability and behavior are proof that social background should not be an excuse; Hard work, knowledge and civilization are real power. Can RJD spokespersons learn nothing from them?
The biggest drawback of RJD spokespersons is their factlessness and lack of preparation. When facts and figures are sought from them, they either change the subject or try to make the atmosphere stressful. For example, in a recent debate, when Kanchan Yadav was questioned on the data of education and employment during the RJD rule in Bihar, he made personal remarks on the opposition panelist instead of answering. This behavior not only reveals their disability, but also shows how far they are from the real issues of the public. Similarly, in another discussion, Sarika Paswan made unrestrained allegations against opposition parties instead of facts when the data of crime rate in Bihar was questioned. Priyanka Bharti also often resorts to emotional appeal in the absence of facts, which further exposes her weak preparation.
Seeing these videos on social media, the anger of the public is clearly reflected. People are comparing these spokes to leaders and spokespersons who speak with facts and arguments. On forums like Twitter and Facebook, users have called the behavior of these spokes “shameful” and “rude”. One user wrote, “RJD spokespersons try to get their point out by screaming instead of facts. This is not politics, not a gimmick.” Another user raised the question, “Does RJD not have spokespersons who can speak with arguments and facts?” This is a clear indication of the disappointment and anger of the public.
It is time to train its spokespersons and explain to them that the purpose of political discussion is not to spread propaganda, but to make the public aware of the truth. These spokespersons have to understand that abusive and indecency further highlights their weaknesses. If they take inspiration from spokespersons like Dr. Guru Paswan, then perhaps they can save their credibility. The example of Dr. Paswan is important because they not only use their social background positively, but also make an impact in every discussion with their logical ability and intensive knowledge. His decency and factuality can be a lesson for RJD spokes.
RJD also has to understand that in this era of TV debates and social media, people are eyeing everything. People now give importance to leaders and spokespersons who speak with facts and arguments. If the RJD wants to improve his image, he must train his spokes for factual and civilized behavior. For this, the party should take the following steps:
– Training and Workshops: RJD should organize special training programs for its spokes, in which they are taught factual discussion, arts of debates and decency.
– Emphasis on facts: Spokesmen should prepare well for every discussion, including figures, facts and policy information. This will enable them to avoid personal attacks and abusive words.
– Civilization and Ethics: Spokespersons have to explain that abusive and indecency reduces their credibility. Only civilized and logical behavior can win the trust of the public.
– Positive inspiration: The party should put the example of spokespersons like Dr. Guru Paswan, who earns respect on the strength of his hard work and knowledge.
Finally, RJD should seriously consider such activities of its spokespersons. The public will no longer tolerate such politics that is rested on noise and abuses instead of facts. These spokespersons will have to take lessons from their mistakes and bring political discussion to a decent and logical level. If the RJD does not take steps in this direction, then there is a danger of further loss to his image. It is time that the party not only train its spokespersons, but also explain to them that the real purpose of politics is to serve the people, not gimmick on TV. There is a need for civilized and factual discussion in Indian democracy, and RJD will have to fulfill its responsibility in it.
