The residue of torn shell has been found during Operation Sindoor from Dal Lake, the famous tourist destination of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Teams of Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) discovered the remains of these shells during the cleaning of the reservoir. The debris has been handed over to the nearest police station, where they have been kept for further investigation and necessary action. On May 10, the sound of loud blasts was heard in Srinagar when a missile -like item fell into the depth of the Dal Lake, a major tourist attraction in Srinagar. Officials had said that the smoke was rising from the surface of the lake when this object fell.

Later security forces took out the debris. On the same day, another suspected object was recovered from Laszan, the outskirts of the city. There were several explosions in Srinagar on 10 May. These incidents were part of Operation Sindoor. Operation vermilion was launched on 7 May in response to Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed. Subsequently, India launched targeted attacks on terrorist structures and Pakistani airports, while Pakistan retaliated by drone and missile attacks, which were thwarted by the Indian Armed Forces. During this time there was heavy shelling from across the border.
