Former Foreign Secretary, Kiren Rijiju surrounded Congress on Kharge’s ‘hollow slogan’ statement on H-1B

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has retaliated on the opposition party Congress citing the statements of former Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal. Rijiju reacted sharply to the allegation of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in which he held Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for the US strictness on the H-1B visa. Rijiju said that there is enough time and place for politics, but when it comes to national interests, everyone should speak together for India.

Kharge allegations, ‘hollow slogans’ are not foreign policy

Mallikarjun Kharge, while referring to the tough stance of the Trump administration on the H-1B visa, said that PM Modi got this as a ‘gift’ after a birthday phone call from Trump. Taking a sarcasm at Modi and Trump’s ‘old friendship’, he said that ‘hug’ and ‘hollow slogans’ are not foreign policy. According to Kharge, foreign policy means protecting national interests and fulfilling friendship with understanding and balance.

Former Foreign Secretary’s reply, do not make Donald Trump a weapon against Modi

Responding to the allegations of the Congress president, former Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal said in an X post that instead of united against foreign threats, blaming PM Modi weakens India’s resistance. He also said that Trump is disgusting with everyone, including his colleagues. Sibal raised the question, ‘Is the opposition refusing to be directed by the US on our foreign policy options?’ He also said that India did not make business deals to achieve Trump’s goodwill like Pakistan.

Sibal further said that if Trump wants to cancel America’s achievements to please his supporters, it is not just the problem of India. He told the opposition that it is not appropriate to try to take advantage of a serious external challenge for domestic politics. He said, “Internal solidarity against foreign pressure will be helpful at the national level rather than ridicule.”

Kiren Rijiju, while sharing Sibal’s post, described him as a ‘highly intellectual and learned diplomat’, whose views are sharp and relevant. Rijiju said that he could understand Sibal’s pain, which forced him to give the Congress President such ‘excellent advice’.
