Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bhavnagar, Gujarat on 20 September, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several transforming projects costing Rs 1.5 trillion (US $ 17,02,40,25,000.00). The program, organized under the Transforming Maritime Sector Conclave, is a major step towards India’s long -term approach to becoming a leader in the global maritime by 2047. The Prime Minister’s visit will include a public meeting and a road show, which will highlight the multidimensional approach towards national development. These projects will promote port infrastructure, shipbuilding and coastal development across the country, which correspond to Maritime India Vision 2030.

Major initiatives include extensive upgrades of many ports. A new container terminal will be inaugurated at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port in Kolkata. A new container berth and cargo handling facilities will be launched at the Paradip port. In addition, new fire fighting facilities and modern road connectivity will be inaugurated at Kamarajar port. A strong sea wall and reconstruction work will be a new project at Chennai port for coastal security. At Deendayal port at Kandla, a multi-purpose cargo berth, a green bio-melonol plant and an oil jetty will be launched on the coast of Tuna Tekra. The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) will also be inaugurated at Indira Dock, which aims to promote India’s cruise tourism.

The Prime Minister will also focus on shipbuilding and logistics. New ship repair facilities will be launched in Patna and Varanasi, as well as a freight village in Varanasi. Strategic settlement memorandum (MoU) will be signed, one of which will be between Shipyard Limited (CSL) and HD KSOE for shipbuilding, and the other will be between Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and major oil companies (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL) for ship demand aggregation.
