A Jammu and Kashmir court convicted two engineers in a bribery case

In Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday, the Anti-Corruption Court convicted two engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) in the case of taking a bribe of Rs 45,000.

In 2011, the Anti -Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Junior Engineer Raja Faisal in 2011 seeking and accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000 in the presence of independent witnesses. An ACB spokesperson said that the involvement of Assistant Executive Engineer Syed Ikhlak Hussain Pir was also revealed in the investigation.

Judge Archana Charak convicted the two engineers under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code (which is now canceled, but considered applicable under the PC Act).

The court sentenced each accused to one year rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 120 BRPC, one year rigorous imprisonment under Section 161 RPC and fine of Rs 10,000 and one year rigorous imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act and a fine of Rs 10,000.

The case was registered on the complaint of a contractor, who had completed the work of laying the coal tar on the Doda-Ganka road. The ACB spokesperson said that 75 percent of the payment was made, but after that the accused officials sought a bribe of Rs 45,000 to release the remaining amount, which made the complaint due to the complaint.
