Meenatai Thackeray Statue Controversy | Insult of the statue of Meenatai Thackeray in Shivaji Park, accused arrested, political boil in Maharashtra

The deformation of the statue of Meenatai Thackeray, the late wife of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, has brought a boil into the politics of Maharashtra. Upendra Pavaskar has been arrested by identifying from CCTV footage and eight teams are investigating the case by registering an FIR under Section 298 of the Indian Code.

Accused arrested

On Wednesday evening, a person was arrested on the charge after the statue of the late wife Meenatai Thackeray of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. The accused was identified through CCTV footage. An official here said that the accused has been identified as Upendra Pavaskar and the suspect is being questioned.

Meenatai Thackeray thrown color at the statue

An official said that at around 6.30 am, a passerby saw the red color on the statue. On receiving the information, the workers of Shiv Sena (Ubatha) led by Uddhav Thackeray reached the spot and started cleaning the premises. The police were also informed about the deformation of the statue. The official said that eight teams were formed to identify the criminals and the police started searching for footage of CCTV cameras installed in Shivaji Park area.

Maharashtra warmed on insult to the statue of Bal Thackeray’s wife

An FIR was lodged against unknown persons under Section 298 (damaging or implicating the place of worship) at Shivaji Park police station under Section 298 (damaging or impure the place of worship with the intention of insulting the religion of any class. Uddhav and his cousin Raj Thackeray visited the scene in the day, amidst heavy resentment among the Shiv Sena (Ubatha) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists. Condemning the incident, Uddhav said that the purpose of this incident seems to cause unrest in Maharashtra.

Devendra Fadnavis also condemned the incident

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also condemned the incident. Fadnavis, who is taking charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs, said, “Police (in deformation) will detect and take action. There is no need to give political color to this incident. ”Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde said that the culprits will not be spared and strict action will be taken. Shiv Sena leader and Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said that insult to the idol is an emotional issue for Shiv Sainiks.

Heavy outrage among Shiv Sainiks

Shiv Sena leader and Minister of State Shambhuraj Desai said that ‘non -vegetarians’ are a matter of faith for Shiv Sainiks. Shiv Sena (Ubatha) leader and Mumbai South Central MP Anil Desai targeted the state government over the deformation of the statue, saying, “This is the failure of the state government.” Shiv Sena (Ubatha) MLA Mahesh Sawant indicated that the incident is inspired by politics. Without naming anyone, he said that the incident took place after a ‘vermilion’ demonstration by the Shiv Sena (Ubatha) in protest against the India-Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup on 14 September. This happened after the rally.
