The activist opened Pakistan’s poll on the atrocities on Baloch, said- even oppressive rule cannot escape justice forever.

Eminent American human rights lawyer and researcher Reid Body has expressed strong support for the people of Balochistan and demanded international accountability and independent inquiry of extensive human rights violations in the region. He was speaking at the seventh Balochistan International Conference held at the Geneva Press Club with a 60th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. The event was organized by Baloch National Movement (BNM). Body, who is known to work with the victims of Chile’s Augusto Pinoshe, Haiti’s gene-cloud Duvelier and Chad’s Phanen Habre’s reign, reminded the participants that even the most repressive regime cannot avoid justice forever.

He said that these people believed that they could silence the opposition through fear and violence. But the victims of his atrocities refused to remain silent, and this was his firmness that eventually gave justice, not the governments. The same determination is still alive in Balochistan. He said that the international community should not ignore the plight of Balochistan. Body announced that we should pressurize forcibly disappear, illegal killings and free investigation into intimidating women activists. He urged Pakistani officials to prevent illegal use of force, release detained people for peaceful protests and restore internet facilities in affected areas.

Calling the global solidarity, the broadi underlined, the struggle for truth and accountability can be long, but it is never disappointing. Support the voice of the victims, demand justice and do not let geophysical interests dominate fundamental human rights.
