Jairam Ramesh said that this order is important as it goes a long way towards eliminating the mischievous intentions inherent in the original law. He further stated that the lawyers representing opposition parties had argued that as a result of this law, a structure would be prepared where anyone and everyone will be able to challenge the status of property before the collector and the status of property will be uncertain during such a case.
Targeting the BJP -led central government, Ramesh said that the intention behind these sections was always clear – to keep the voters provoked and to create an administrative structure to incorporate religious disputes. The Supreme Court on Monday refused to ban the entire Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, but stopped some provisions till the final decision on the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Act.

Expressing satisfaction over the order, Ramesh said, “We welcome this order as a victory for the constitutional values of justice, equality and fraternity.” The Supreme Court said that this provision will be postponed until the rules to determine whether a person is a follower of Islam or not.
