Demonstration in Chudachandpur for detaining two people on charges of tearing Modi’s banner

On Sunday, there was a clash with the security forces of the crowd to protest against the detention of two youths on charges of tearing the banners and ‘cutouts’ in connection with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chudachandpur district of Manipur. Police gave this information.

Several banners and cutouts in the market were torn on the night of 11 September. Many youths were detained by the police in connection with this incident. However, all were released after questioning, while two youths were kept in custody.

The mob demonstrated near Chudachandpur police station demanding immediate release. The protesters then pelted stones at the security forces. The situation became normal after the police released both the youths. The police had earlier claimed that both had been arrested.

A district police official said, “Both persons were not suddenly taken into custody contrary to the protesters’ claims, but were taken to questioning the site of sabotage.”

Modi visited the kingdom for the first time on Saturday after the ethnic conflict between Kuki and Meeti community started in May 2023 in Manipur. Addressing a rally in Chudachandpur, he promised to make the state a ‘symbol of peace’.
