Ukraine attacked a fierce drone on one of Russia’s largest oil refineries last night, causing a fire. Russian and Ukrainian officials confirmed this. Ukraine had targeted Russian oil infrastructure even weeks before the attack on the Kirishi Refinery located in the northwestern Leningrad region of Russia.
The respective establishment produces about 1.77 million metric tonnes or 3,55,000 barrels of crude oil every year. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, explosion and fire have been reported at the scene.
He posted a picture, in which the high flames and smoke are seen in the sky at night. Russian officials did not immediately comment on the results of the attack.
Russia remains the second largest oil exporter in the world, but there has been a lack of gasoline in recent weeks due to increase in demand and Ukrainian drone attacks. In some areas of the country, fuel stations have lacking fuel and drivers have to wait in long queues.
In an attempt to reduce this deficiency, Russia has banned gasoline exports. The officials announced the complete ban till 30 September and a partial ban affecting traders and middlemen till 31 October.
