Shahjeb Rizvi is a resident of Rasulpur village under Faloda police station in Meerut. Was in the Samajwadi Party before RLD. In August 2020, he declared a reward of Rs 51 lakh on the head of Naveen, nephew of Karnataka Congress MLA R Akhand Srinivas Murthy.
Naveen posted an insult to Prophet Mohammed on Facebook. On August 11, 2020, riots erupted in Bengaluru due to Naveen’s social media posts. During this time, two police stations were attacked by the Muslim mob, in which several policemen were injured. Three attackers of the mob were killed in a police firing during the incident.
Shahjeb Rizvi released a video announcing the reward. In which Rizvi had said, whoever brings Naveen’s head to insult the Prophet, will be given a reward of Rs 51 lakh. He also asked the people of his community to pay for this reward. After the video surfaced on social media, the SSP of Meerut ordered an inquiry into the case. He was arrested within 24 hours.
