A four -year -old girl was attacked by a leopard in Chaubatkhal area of Pauri district of Uttarakhand, killing her. A forest officer gave this information on Saturday.
An official said that Riya was playing in the balcony of her house on Friday evening when the leopard pounced on her and dragged her. Akash Verma, the forest conservator of Garhwal, said that the girl’s mother ran behind the leopard making noise, but the leopard left the girl about 50 meters from the house and ran away. By the time the family reached the spot, the girl was dead.
As soon as the information was received, the team of administration, forest department and health department reached the spot. He said that the girl was the youngest of two sisters. The family was preparing to celebrate his birthday on 17 September, for which his father Jitendra Singh Rawat came to the village from Mumbai.
Verma said that a team of forest department has been deployed in the area, where two cages have been installed to catch the leopard. He told that three more cages are being installed.
The funeral of the girl was not performed till Saturday evening as the family insisted on issuing an order to kill the leopard. After this, Lansdowne Divisional Forest Officer Jeevan Mohan Degade assured him about the efforts being made to catch the leopard.Local people claimed that leopards are often seen in the area. He said that the government should take special steps to ensure the safety of the people.
