A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt on Friday held talks with members of the European Union Council’s Political and Security Committee (PSC). The 30-member PSC delegation, who was on its first visit to Asia, was headed by the chairman of the Committee, the Chairman of the Committee and officials of the European Commission and European Foreign Action Services as well as the PSC Ambassador of the European Union member countries. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the rising high -level political participation and regular regional talks. Discussions focused on advancing India-European Union cooperation in diverse fields, especially security and defense areas. Both sides, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, reiterated their commitment to conduct the India-European Union Safety and Defense Partnership and Information Security Agreement quickly.

He also hoped the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), for which the leaders have given the task of finalizing the agreement to the respective talks by the end of the year. In addition, he also exchanged his views on the latest regional and global developments. During India’s two -day work journey, PSC members also met the Defense Secretary, received brief information on the Information Finance Center – Indian Ocean Region (IFC -IOR) and interacted with representatives of the Indian defense industry. The statement stated that the European Union PSC visit forward the speed of the European Union’s College of Commissioners in February 2025 after India’s historic visit and a deep India-European Union reflects a joint deal of strategic partnership.

There is a regular exchange of security and defense matters between India and the European Union through a comprehensive bilateral dialogue structure including security and defense, marine security, cyber and anti-terrorism areas. Both sides are also looking for opportunities to increase cooperation in defense industry and manufacturing. The statement said that Egyptian along with Deputy National Security Advisor Pawan Kapoor, Secretary (West) Sibi George and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
