Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki will take oath as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal at 8.45 pm tonight. The decision has been taken by the protesters after a long conversation with the Nepali Army and President Ram Chandra Paudel, after which the demands of the protesters to dissolve Parliament and appoint Karki as an interim Prime Minister were accepted.

Devraj Ghimire, President of Nepal’s Pratinidhi Sabha and Narayan Dahal, president of the upper house ‘Rashtriya Sabha’, on Friday called for the current political deadlock to be resolved under the scope of the Constitution. The joint statement of Ghimire and Dahal comes on a day when an important meeting is being held in the President’s Office, in which it will be decided who will lead the interim government after the Prime Minister’s P. Sharma Oli has been moved on Tuesday due to violent protests led by the students. The joint statement said that President Ramchandra Paudel is taking initiative to deal with the situation, respecting the sovereignty, civil freedom, regional integrity, national unity and freedom of the people.

At least 51 people, including an Indian citizen, died in a recent ‘Jane Z’ demonstration against corruption in Pal and the ban on social media forums. The police gave this information on Friday. Kathmandu Post Newspaper quoted Nepal Police co-owner Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa as saying that the dead included an Indian citizen, three policemen and other Nepali citizens.
