According to police reports released on September 12, 2025, Nepal has been hit by anti -violent corruption protests this week, resulting in at least 51 people. The casualties include 21 protesters, 3 police officers, 9 prisoners and 1 Indian women, which reflects the acute chaos in the country. The unrest began as a peaceful protest against government corruption, sanctions on social media and poor governance led by Generation Z. However, after the officials banned the social media platform, the movement increased rapidly, causing public anger and broader riots erupted.

On 9 September, the protesters set fire to the Parliament House in Nepal, which took a significant turn in the crisis. Subsequently, amid rising political pressure, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced his resignation. Army was deployed, curfew was imposed and roads were controlled to restore the system. Amidst this turmoil, a wave of escape from jail shocked the entire country. Around 17,000 prisoners escaped from the jails across Nepal, including renowned people and terrorists from the underworld. The incident of escape from the first jail took place in Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur, where supporters of the jailed politician Ravi Lamichna attacked the campus, rescued him and forced more than 900 prisoners to flee.

Similar incidents of escape from prison spread rapidly across the country, jails were vandalized and at least nine prisoners were killed.
Despite increasing violence and sabotage, young protesters have kept themselves away from incidents of sabotage and looting and blamed opportunists infiltrating peaceful protests. They emphasize that the original movement focuses on anti-corruption and better administration. The Nepali army has reported that it has recovered more than 100 guns robbed during the unrest. The protesters have seen automatic rifles, which has increased the concern of the increasing militarization and peace restoration of demonstrations.
