The BJP has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the 15th Vice President of India for not attending the swearing -in ceremony of CP Radhakrishnan. BJP’s national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Gandhi of disregarding constitutional values ​​in a post on X. Bhandari further alleged that Gandhi had not attended the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort. Questioning Gandhi’s commitment to public life, he argued that the leader who escapes from such opportunities and the swearing -in ceremony of any constitutional dignitaries cannot be considered suitable for public responsibility. He also claimed that Gandhi had time to spend holidays in Malaysia, but decided not to attend an official constitutional ceremony. He described Gandhi as a threat to India’s democracy, which in his view opposes the Indian state.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge represented the party at the event, while Gandhi was allegedly going to Gujarat for a party program. Defending his absence, Congress leader Udit Raj said that there is no rule for the Leader of the Opposition to attend every constitutional function. He said that the presence of the Congress president was sufficient and accused the BJP of weakening the constitution, while Gandhi struggled to protect the Constitution.

Significantly, most of the opposition leaders were also away from the swearing -in ceremony of Vice President of Jagdeep Dhankhar in 2022. Mr. Dhankhar, who recently resigned, citing health reasons, was present in today’s program. Apart from the BJP, its ally Shiv Sena also criticized the absence of opposition leaders. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde said that the opposition should not politicize constitutional opportunities.
