Floods in Pakistan exposed the flaws of governance, citizens helpless, upset

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President Chaudhary Parvez Ilahi has said that the Government of Pakistan should take responsibility for the tragic loss of life and property due to the recent floods. Talking to the media after appearing in court, Elahi said that people from all over the province are mourning for the state not taking preventive measures. According to The Express Tribune, he said that citizens are feeling alone as the authorities neither issued a warning nor took steps to reduce destruction.

Ilahi questioned why permission was allowed to run irregular housing schemes on the banks of the river and why they were not removed before the disaster. He said that apart from human casualties, floods have also destroyed crops and livestock, causing a deep setback to the rural economy. According to The Express Tribune report, Ilahi announced that he was going to his hometown Gujarat to inspect the relief operations, and he said that the supply has already been sent to the affected areas. He said, “It is the national responsibility to help flood affected people without any discrimination.
Ilahi alleged that important sewerage projects have come to a standstill after the current administration stopped the funds. According to the Express Tribune, he held the ruling party responsible for increasing the possibility of floods in Gujarat. He further said that wherever the floods are killed, the leaders sitting in power should be held accountable to their inaction.

Ilahi said that the current crisis has exposed the government’s disability and neglect towards public welfare. The special court of the FIA ​​heard the money laundering case against Ilahi and adjourned the proceedings to the debate on the plea to acquit them till 27 September. His lawyer, Amir Saeed Ron argued that the government was running a fabricated case against PTI leaders.
