INS Tamal Warship Equipped with BrahMos, will protect the western border

After joining the Navy on 1 July in Kaliningrad, Russia and passing through several seas and ports, India’s last imported warship, INS Tamal, is scheduled to reach its base at Karwar, Karnataka. A stealth warship, INS Tamal will be given a grand reception on arrival. It left from St. Petersburg, Russia and then a long way to reach India via the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. On August 6, the ship reached Morocco, where it participated in collaborative activities with the Royal Morocco Navy, including a route practice with Mohammed VI. Its next stop was Naples of Italy, where the crew celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day.

Tamal is the last imported warship of the Indian Navy. INS Tamal is a modern warship that can operate in the sea, air and water and electronic wars in these four regions. Tamal was commissioned on 1 July at the Navy at the ceremony held at Yantra Shipyard, Calininagrad, Russia. INS Tamal is a multi-rubll stealth frigate. Its commissioning CO Captain Sridhar Tata is missile and artillery war experts. In 2016, there was an agreement between India and Russia to create 4 sword class stealth frigates. Two of which were to be built in Russia and two in India. ‘Tursh’ made in Russia has been included in the Navy last year and this year Tamal also got the Navy. The Navy has already made it clear that now no other warship will be purchased from outside in future. Hence ‘Tamal’ is the last imported warship of the Navy. Talwar class Waraship in the Navy began to join 2003. The 6 Warships of this class are in the Navy.

The INS Tamal is the eighth ship of the Talth Frigate of the Talwar category and part of the Western fleet, known as the ‘Talwar branch’ of the Indian Navy under the Western Navy Command. It was launched on February 24, 2022 and was first sealed in November 2024, and successfully completed the factory, committee and acceptance tests before it started in July 2025.
