Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Monday that floods and waterlogging in many parts of Haryana are not only the result of nature’s outbreak, but also behind it, Naib Singh Saini government’s disability and inaction. He claimed that despite prior warnings due to heavy monsoon rains, steps were not taken in time.

Surjewala, who visited many flood affected and waterlogged areas in the last few days, said, “The cause of floods and waterlogging is not only the outbreak of nature, but it is also the result of Naib Saini government’s disability and inaction.” Addressing a public meeting here, he said, “Every year, before the monsoon arrives, there are meetings of the flood control board, in which senior officials take part.” Everyone in the districts know what is the situation of drains, which areas are in the grip of waterlogging and which embankments need to be strengthened on which rivers.

The Congress leader said that now many parts of Haryana have been submerged and 11 cities and 72 towns are in the grip of floods, while thousands of acres of agricultural land has been submerged and crops have been destroyed. Congress General Secretary and former Haryana minister said, “The embankments were not strengthened, cleaning of drains, canals, rivers, no work was done, pumping sets were not arranged, drainage systems were cleaned, no mock drills were done …” He said, “He said,” Now the reality of the government’s disability and inaction is revealed.
