Vikas Swaroop, a spokesman of former India Foreign Ministry, has warned in the context of the comments of the White House business advisor Peter Navaro that the Trump administration is trying to pressurize India.
Navaro has recently reacted sharply against India, in which he called India a ‘Maharaja of charges’ and criticized it for buying oil from Russia. At this, Vikas Swaroop gave a befitting reply that India has always followed the principle of strategic autonomy and will not follow anyone’s ‘instructions’.
In an interview to a news agency ANI, Swaroop said, ‘The current relationship is not good. We all thought that the personal relations between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump have developed and President Trump actually respects Prime Minister Modi, we felt that the Indo-US trade agreement would be soon. But unfortunately, this did not happen. American officials are trying to put all kinds of pressure on India. But India is a very proud nation. India is a country that has always followed the principle of strategic autonomy. We will not walk on anyone’s instructions.

Expect reconculation between the two sides
Swaroop hoped for progress between the two countries, saying, “I think there is still time for both sides to find a mutually allowed solution.” However, she emphasized that ‘of course, the current comments coming from the Trump administration, especially Peter Navarro, are not helping in this matter.’
What did Peter Navaro say about India?
Peter Navarro has taken a tough stand, justifying US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 50 percent tariff on imports from India. Navaro also accused India of earning profits from Russian oil. According to Navaro, the main objective of the move is to prevent financial assistance given by India to Moscow during the Ukraine conflict.
