Jarange was allowed to continue the fast in Azad Maidan

Police on Friday allowed activist Manoj Jarange to continue the fast for another day at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai for Maratha reservation. An official gave this information.

The worker, who started an indefinite hunger strike on Friday morning, was initially allowed to stay in the ground for only one day. The police officer said the period of permission ended at six in the evening as per the direction of the Bombay High Court, but the organizers had requested to extend the time and the Azad Maidan police station accepted their application.

On Friday, when thousands of supporters of Jarange reached South Mumbai, road traffic in the area almost came to a standstill. Jarange demands that all Marathas be recognized as a kunbi. Kunbi is an agricultural community, which is included in the OBC category. Maratha will get the benefit of reservation in government jobs and education by joining the OBC category.
