The Department of Food and Consumer Protection has launched a statewide inspection campaign with the objective of ensuring transparency and responsibility in the Public Distribution System (PDS) from Friday. In this context, Principal Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar has issued instructions to all the district officials that every public distribution system shop of the state should be compulsorily inspected so that the eligible beneficiaries can ensure the prescribed quantity and quality food grains.

As part of the statewide inspection campaign, “Zero Office Day” was declared on 29 August 2025 today. In order to make the inspection process streamlined, District Supply Officers of all the districts of the state have been instructed to coordinate with their respective Deputy Director (Food) to prepare a panchayat -wise roster of all the public distribution system shops in the district. Under this, all the officials will be mandatory to inspect all the shops of at least two panchayats per day. During the inspection, it will be specifically ensured that the amount and quality of food grains prescribed by the government is being fully available or not can be available to the beneficiaries.
The Department of Food and Consumer Protection has given clear instructions that action will be taken against the officers who take any kind of negligence or laxity in the inspection work. Daily monitoring of inspection work at the district level will be done by Deputy Director (Food) and District Supply Officer, while the sub -divisional officers will ensure necessary action on the basis of received reports. The entire campaign is being strictly monitored from the department level.

The basic objective of this initiative started by the Department of Food and Consumer Protection is to make the state’s food grain distribution system more transparent, effective and beneficial. The department believes that this addition inspection campaign will strengthen accountability and discipline in the public distribution system and ensure that no eligible families are deprived of food grains.
