Peter Navarro, US President Donald Trump’s business advisor, further splung India’s criticism on Thursday. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of fueling Russia’s war through concessional oil purchases in Ukraine and warned that India’s growing economic relations with Moscow and Beijing were weakening global stability. In an interview with Bloomberg, Navaro accused India of playing double games in terms of trade and energy and said that his moves are similar to “Modi’s war”.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television’s ‘Balance of Power’, White House advisor Peter Navarro, referring to the struggle affected by India, said that the path of peace “goes through New Delhi to some extent”.
Navaro’s comment comes at a time when 50% tariff imposed on Indian goods by President Donald Trump has come into effect from Wednesday – this step has been taken to punish India for continuous purchase of Russian crude oil despite western pressure.
Accused of oil purchase at concessional rates
He claimed that India is helping Russia by purchasing Russian crude oil at concessional rates and is harming America. He said Washington had to fund Ukraine with this while Americans are financially suffering.
Navaro said, “Everyone in America is suffering losses. Consumers, businesses, workers, are suffering losses because India’s high tariffs are causing our jobs, factory, income and high wages. And then taxpayers are suffering losses, because we have to fund Modi’s war.”

American tariff against India
50 percent of tariffs, one of the most mutual charges in Asia, will affect more than 55 percent of goods sent to the US, India’s largest export market. Electronics and pharmaceuticals are currently exempted, but it will have a profound impact on labor-dominated areas such as textiles and jewelery.
The tariff growth occurred after an incarnate talks between Washington and New Delhi for months. Indian authorities have expressed their disappointment at American protectionist measures, especially agriculture, which is an important area for farmers of the country and a major voter group.
Navarro’s sharp comment on India’s attitude
Navaro said, “What is bothering me is that Indians are very arrogant in this matter. They say,” Hey, we don’t have much tariffs. Hey, this is our sovereignty. We can buy oil. “
Indo-US Tariff War
President Trump has criticized India for continuous purchase of oil from Russia, and Navaro and Finance Minister Scott Besant also confirmed this, who has accused India’s wealthiest families of profiteering.
Although there is no ban on Russian crude oil, the US quietly encouraged the purchase after the G-7 countries set up a price limit of $ 60 per barrel in 2022 to limit the revenue of Kremlin while maintaining the global supply.

India, historically dependent on the Middle Eastern crude oil, began buying Russian oil to control domestic energy prices. New Delhi has defended these relations and termed Washington’s functions as “inappropriate, inappropriate and indispensable”. Although India has reduced its imports, they have not stopped.
China remains the largest buyer of Russian crude oil by sea route, yet the Trump administration has taken a soft trend towards Beijing amidst ongoing trade talks.
The two countries have extended the 90-day tariff ceasefire, under which some import taxes have been withdrawn and export restrictions on rare-earth magnets and important technologies.
