An official said that the police arrested two people in connection with the incident and detained a minor. He said that tension spread in the area after the incident. The official said that the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday when the idol of Lord Ganpati was being taken for installation in a pandal before Ganesh Chaturthi on Wednesday.

He said that three people allegedly threw eggs at the idol when the procession was passing through the waterfall area of ​​the city. He said that the accused are a minor and two youths who are 20 and 29 years old. According to the official, an egg fell on one part of the idol, causing anger among the devotees.

He said that the insult of the idol spread communal tension in the area and people demanded immediate action against the culprits. The official said the police lodged an FIR and formed 12 teams, whose members searched CCTV footage and used human intelligence to reach all three.

The crime branch said in a statement that two accused, Sufiyan Mansuri (20) and Shahnawaz Qureshi (29) have been arrested, while the minor was detained a few hours after the incident.

The statement said that Section 196 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) has been booked under Section 196 (promoting enmity among various groups on the basis of religion), 298 (impure the worship site to insult the religion of any class of people), 115 (deliberately hurt) and 324 (mischief).
