Opposition coalition ‘India’ on Tuesday alleged that the Election Commission has registered more than 5,000 residents of Uttar Pradesh as voters in a nearby district of Bihar to benefit the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming assembly elections.
Congress National General Secretary Randeep Surjewala and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha made this allegation at a press conference in Phulparas in Madhubani district.
He cited the name of a 45 -year -old man in the voter list, alleging that the suspected voters are mostly registered in Valmiki Nagar assembly constituency in West Champaran district.
He said that the name of that person is in the voter list but he is a voter of Khadda assembly constituency in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. However, the West Champaran district administration issued a statement dismissing the claim, which was shared by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer here.
The statement said, this is a draft voter list published by the Election Commission on August 1, not the final voter list. The purpose of the draft list is to invite claims and objections regarding repetition or any other discrepancy.
The administration said, in addition, the data of more than 5,000 suspected voters at the press conference was raised without any other details or evidence. This seems to be a fictional figure that cannot be confirmed.
