The US has announced an additional duty of 25% on Indian imports, causing the total tariff to 50%. This step has been taken by India after allegations of promoting Russian oil by purchasing Russian oil and earning profits. These new American charges will be applicable from August 27, to which India has objected.
The US Home Safety Department on Monday issued a notice to a plan to impose 50 percent tariff on Indian imports. President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on India in an executive order, but it was increased to 50 percent. He also said that India is promoting Ukraine war by purchasing oil from Russia. The move of the White House indicates that the US is not in the mood to leave the issue like this and is planning to carry forward its steps against India.

These fees will be applicable from 27 August i.e. Wednesday
The US has issued a draft notice, giving details of the plan to impose an additional 25 percent fee on Indian products as per the earlier announcement by the US. These fees will be applicable from 27 August i.e. Wednesday. The Home Ministry said in the draft order published on Monday that the increased fee will be applicable to the Indian products that have been brought on 27 August 2025 as per the ‘Eastern Daylight Time’ (EDT) (for consumption (in the country) or from the godown. ‘
Trump has imposed restrictions on India to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump announced India on August 7 to double the fees on Indian goods for purchase of Russian crude oil to 50 percent, although he gave 21 days to negotiate the agreement. This fee will be levied in addition to the 25 percent fee announced at the end of July. The fee announced in July came into effect from August 7.

Caroline Levitt, the press secretary of the US President’s official residence and office ‘White House’, said earlier this month that President Trump had imposed restrictions on India to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. US Finance Minister Scott Besant has accused India of earning “profit” by selling it again in the market after purchasing Russian oil. At the same time, India has described the charges leveled by the US as “unfair and incompatible”. India has said that like every major economy, it will also take all necessary steps to protect its national interests and economic security.
