Kerala: A young man was caught on charges of trying to smuggle mobile phone, tobacco in Kannur jail

A 27 -year -old youth who was allegedly trying to smuggle a mobile phone and bidi packet in the Central Jail in Kannur district of northern Kerala was caught by the jail authorities.

Police said on Monday that the arrested person was identified by Akshay K.K. Has been done as a resident of Durban of Puthiathheru here. Two other people who came with him ran away and the police is searching for him.

According to the FIR, the accused on Sunday allegedly entered the jail premises and tried to throw a mobile phone, bidi packet and other tobacco products above the wall wall. However, the jail warden saw him. Akshay was caught while two other people escaped.

The jail officials later handed him over to the police, who registered a case and arrested him. Police said Akshay has been released on bail after questioning. The remaining two suspects have been identified and will be arrested soon.

He said that investigators are also trying to find out who was to be transported inside the jail. In February 2011, Govindachami, convicted of raping and murdering 23 -year -old Soumya, who was traveling alone in a passenger train going from Ernakulam to Shornur, ran away from Kannur Central Jail last month. However, he was later caught after hours of searching operation.
